As a member of the Green Tourism Business Scheme Traquair has been assessed for it environmental credentials, energy saving measures, energy efficiency, recycling environmental interpretation and has been given the prestigious Silver Award. We have been working hard at Traquair this year to improve our “green” status. Next time we are going for Gold!
It was very exciting to see the first red squirrel at Traquair for over twenty years the other day and photographed by Ian Cameron. We have been striving to cut down the number of grey squirrels over the last year which were beginning to endanger the health of many of the trees at Traquair and it is fantastic to see a red has finally returned.
Our head brewer, Ian Cameron, has another passion as amateur wildlife photographer. He has spotted an incredible number of birds and other wildlife often from right outside the door of the brew house! This year we have produced a stunning Wildlife at Traquair Calendar. A perfect gift with all proceeds going to the Campaign for Muscular Dystrophy. Please contact us to order your copy.
There is another action packed year planned in 2009 with a full programme that you can now view on our website, please click the link: www.traquair.co.uk The big news is that Traquair Fair is taking a year off this year (orgnaiser having a well earned break!) but there will be a smaller arts and crafts event “Art in Action” on the first weekend in August. Also the Indian Motorbike Rally last seen in 1995 will be coming back to Traquair in 2009.
