Children’s Authors Head for Traquair Fair
The Children's Book Tent at this year's Traquair Fair features a host of storytelling treats from Scottish-based authors and Borders-based storytellers.
The family-friendly event takes place on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 August in the grounds of Scotland's oldest inhabited home Traquair House near Innerleithen. As well as the Children's Book Tent and some great children's entertainment, the event features an eclectic mix of traditional and world music, visual arts, outdoor theatre, arts and crafts workshops, children's entertainment, a vibrant crafts market and food and drink from around the world.
The Children's Book Tent, which sponsored by the Scottish Book Trust and solicitors Turcan Connell, will feature the following authors:
Keith Brumpton
An author, illustrator and creator of CBBC series M.I.High, Keith has lived in Scotland for over 10 years. He is the creator of the popular Dinosaur FC series and will tell tales of Triceratops, Dino FC and some fresh and funny football antics from this illustrated series with a prehistoric twist. (Age group: over 7s)
Linda Strachan
Linda has written over 50 books for children, many of them for use in schools – from picture books to teenage novels. One of her most popular series is the adventures of Hamish McHaggis, the happy-go-lucky Haggis recognisable by his orange fur, big red nose and tartan hat. (Age group: 5-9 year olds)
Natalie Russell
In 2003, Dundee-based author and illustrator Natalie published her first book Hamish the Highland Cow and was shortlisted for Best New Illustrator in the Booktrust Early Years Awards the following year. Since then she has continued to write and illustrate books including Home Sweet Hamish, Donkey’s Busy Day and Moon Rabbit. (Age Group 5-8 year olds)
Lari Don
Leith-based Lari loves finding stories, researching stories, reading stories, listening to stories, making up stories and writing stories. She will be reading some of her favourites including The Big Bottom Hunt, How to Make a Heron Happy, First Aid for Fairies, Wolf Notes and Storm Singing. (Age Group Under 7s and 7-12s)
The Guid Crack Storytellers
A group of local storytellers based in the Scottish Borders that tell tales both comic and mystic.
Traquair Fair organiser Catherine Maxwell Stuart said;
