SATURDAY 29TH & SUNDAY 30TH MAY 2010
11am – 5pm

The Traquair Medieval Fayre is one of the highlights of the summer calendar at Traquair. There could hardly be a more perfect setting for a truly authentic historical event that will capture adults and children’s’ imagination of life in medieval times.

The event involves an exciting programme of entertainment throughout the weekend with a Royal Medieval Pageant that parades down the main grassed avenue.
The pageant is followed by a tourney before the 1st Laird of Traquair. Later the knights contest to be the king’s champion in an impressive combat display in front of the house.

Also, on the avenue there will be a stunning medieval equestrian display with some superb stunt riding and also you can see and hear an ancient canon with some live firing!

The ancient sport of falconry will be demonstrated in front of the house on the wine glass lawn and you can learn about all aspects of these fascinating birds with talks and displays throughout the day.

In the old walled garden there is a huge array of things to see and do including the chance to have a go at some long bow archery, see some living history demonstrations from armoury to medicinal remedies as well as traditional craft displays such as willow making and wood turning as well as browsing the stalls of medieval traders selling clothing and jewellery, candles, books and hand blown glassware.

For children there is a great sword and shield making workshop and a chance to dress up.
There are shows from Kramus the Wizard with his extraordinary magic and some medieval face painting.

The atmosphere is enhanced by the wandering minstrels and an early music choir. You can listen, participate or just relax with your pint of ye olde Traquair Fayre Ale brewed exclusively for the weekend and a delicious lunch from the local spit roast.
