Shakespeare Festival 2012 Workshops

As part of the Traquair Shakespeare Festival 2012, we offer a series of workshops open to those who have an interest in acting and are keen to learn or improve their performance skills. Three professional theatre makers are coming to Traquair to share skills and techniques in voice and text, physical theatre, and singing for adults and children. The singing workshop is open to children, from eight to fourteen.

"Voice and Text", with Michael Corbidge

Michael Corbidge checking his text

We're very pleased to have persuaded the RSC to let Michael run a six hour workshop on both the Saturday and Sunday of the Festival on "Voice and Text". Michael's workshops have been widely recognised to be one of the highlights of the RSC Open Stages workshops across the UK.

This workshop will offer a fun way to explore how the RSC approaches a Shakespearean text with emphasis on the body, rather than the mind.  Michael bases his workshops on the work of Cicely Berry and John Barton of the RSC. If you want to see how Michael works, here's a short video of him on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2QuCeUz3jg

This is a great opportunity to get some serious RSC training at a very reasonable price.  Numbers are limited to 25 per workshop so places are limited and are going fast.

"Singing" with Lin Marsh

Lin MarshLin has worked extensively in music education across many sectors and organisations, including the BBC.  She is an accomplished composer and voice specialist with particular focus on music theatre.  Lin runs workshops and courses globally, as well as vocal festivals. She is one of the National Advocates for the "Singup" programme.

Lin will be leading four workshops (two for children, two for adults) over the course of the weekend focusing on vocal training and techniques.  Her focus is helping people to explore how to manipulate their larynx to increase the range of effects one can get from one's voice, with relevance for both singing and speaking.  This practical workshop will focus on the whole voice, looking at speaking and singing.  Lin will explore, play with, and discover how the voice works and see how this can create exciting and effective "soundscapes"

The second part of the session will focus on singing with an understanding of healthy vocal function and appropriate vocal colour. Lin's enthusiasm and considerable skills will ensure her workshops will be interactive, imaginative and fun!  Check out Lin in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HvNJ65qWvY
