SUMMARY:Icons on Ammo Boxes
DESCRIPTION:Icons on Ammo Boxes \nTRANSFORMING DEATH INTO LIFE \nWe are delighted to be able to host a new exhibition of Icons on Ammo boxes first shown in 2025. \nThis innovative project is a joint initiative of two Kyivan artists and spouses\, Sofia Atlantova and Oleksandr Klymenko\, and the Pirogov First Volunteer Mobile Hospital (PFVMH)\, an NGO that engages civilian medics to provide medical aid to both militants and civilians in the armed conflict areas in Eastern Ukraine. \nThe main idea of the art project is the transformation of death (symbolized by ammo boxes) into life (traditionally symbolized by icons in Ukrainian culture). The receipts from the icons sale go the PFVMH to support activities of its volunteer medics. \nThe artists paint the icons on the lids\, bottoms\, and other fragments of wooden ammunition boxes that are brought from the combat zone by PFVMH volunteers as well as servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guards of Ukraine. \nThe icons will be on display in the Catholic Chapel at Traquair House from Sunday 9th August – Thursday October 1st. Icons and prints will be available for sale during this time. \nFree entry for Season Pass holders or included in your grounds ticket – please ask for a voucher on arrival at Traquair. SUMMARY:Spotlight on the Servants
DESCRIPTION:Spotlight on the Servants is a new exhibition looking at life below stairs  – or in Traquair’s case\, above stairs as the servants were installed in one of the wings of the house on the upper floor. \nDrawn from the archives at Traquair there are some very early records dating back to the 1600’s when payment could be part paid in kind which included beer and cash wages could be months or even years later! There were also remarkable individuals over the centuries who served the family for most of their lives and their loyalty was unwavering. \nWe have also recorded the names of all the servants who appear in the ten-yearly census returns from 1841 to 1921. If you think a family member may have worked at Traquair during these years you can start your research here. We are currently compiling a database of all the servants who worked here from the early 18th century to the mid-19th century – hundreds of them! Coming soon… \nExhibition will be in the High Gallery (3rd floor) from Saturday 26th September – Saturday 31st October * \nFree entry for Season Pass holders or included in your grounds ticket – please ask for a voucher on arrival at Traquair. Buy Day Tickets and Passes  \n*Traquair House & Grounds closed Fridays September and October.
