An Archive Afternoon at Traquair, Deciphering 18th Century Documents

SOLD OUT
Thursday 26th March, 2pm-4pm
A practical workshop on reading and interpreting 18th century documents at Traquair
A repeat of January’s event, where we will provide some hands on experience of deciphering some of the early documents at Traquair.
Archivist Margaret Fox and Catherine Maxwell Stuart will take you on a journey that will start with a short presentation on the various forms of handwriting found in the Traquair archives, then it’s over to you. Sitting round the main table in the Dining Room you will be transported back into the early 18th century – watched over by portraits of the 4th Earl and Countess of Traquair – you will discover exactly what they were eating and drinking as you pore over their household accounts. We are sure you will find these fascinating – once you have deciphered them! But don’t worry – help will be on hand. Then we will chat about our findings over a cup of tea/coffee and shortbread. What better way to spend an afternoon…
Tickets: £20 – advance booking essential as numbers are strictly limited.
