HOME AND ABROAD
Paintings by Earl Haig OBE RSA 1918 – 2009
Lord Haig, son of the Field Marshall, was a prisoner of war in Colditz Castle until his release at the end of the War. It was as a prisoner of war that he took up painting and held his first exhibition at The Scottish Gallery in 1945. He studied at Camberwell School of art from 1945 – 47 where he developed his love of landscape painting. By the time of his death at the age of 91 he became one of Scotland’s most respected landscape painters.
His family home at Bemersyde near Melrose features in many of his paintings along with many landscapes of the Scottish Borders which he adored. He was a friend of the family at Traquair and this exhibition shows works that remain in private collections in Scotland, Europe and South Africa.
The exhibition will be hosted in the High Gallery at Traquair House (3rd Floor) from Saturday 16th August – Thursday 25th September *.
Free entry for Season Pass holders or included in your grounds ticket – please ask for a voucher on arrival at Traquair. Buy Day Tickets
