BEYOND BEER
A FEAST OF FINE ALES, FINE FOOD AND CRAFT BREWING
Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd August 2014
11am – 8pm

Traquair House Innerleithen Peeblesshire

An innovative new Beer and Food festival is being launched at Traquair this August at the Home of Scotland’s Oldest Micro Brewery featuring the best of Scotland’s Craft Beers, Fine Food & Eating Experiences, Events, Talks and A Beer Banquet held in the Dining Room at Traquair House.

The event will focus predominantly on breweries in the Scottish Borders that include Traquair, Broughton, Borders, Tempest and newcomer The Freewheelin’ Brewery Co, as well as some guest ales from further afield.

In addition to being able to sample ales there will be a host of local food producers from Whitmuir Organics, Cocoa Black Chocolate, Peelham Farm Produce, The Juicy Meat Company and Breadshare to name but a few.

The event will aim to educate and entertain on the subject of beer and food matching. Catherine Maxwell Stuart, organiser commented;

“ We are really keen to get people to enjoy great food and great beers, explore matching food and beer and try things they may not have tasted before.  Beer is definitely the new wine and the breadth and variety of beers now available is stunning”.

A Talks and Events Marquee will also host talks, demonstrations and workshops throughout the weekend with well known beer writers and  brewers  including  Roger Protz, one of the world’s leading beer writers and tasters and author of the best selling “300 Beers to Try Before You Die”. Jane Peyton, beer sommelier and booze historian, and Sara Barton, Britain’s Brewer of the year (2012-13) and head brewer of Brewsters in Grantham.

In addition a Home Brewers competition (now open for entries) will be held with the chance to have your home brew judged and tasted by  a panel of experts and potentially brewed by a local brewer.

Beyond Beer welcomes families and there will be some innovative food related workshops for kids as well as live music and entertainment in the garden all day.

On Saturday evening there will be a very special Beer Banquet to be held in the Dining Room at Traquair House where a 7 course sampling menu will be offered matched with beers and introduced by a beer sommelier to guide you through the different ales. Places are very limited for this event and places should be booked separately.
