Traquair Fair
Traquair Fair News
We have taken the decision to run the Traquair Fair on a biennial basis. There will therefore be no Fair in 2012. The resources now required to put on an event of this nature are increasing every year in terms of time and finance and have made it impossible at present to continue running the event annually.
In the past few years we have also had to contend with some extreme weather conditions which not only impacted on visitor numbers but also on our grounds for some time after the event. As a visitor attraction that is open daily throughout the summer we have to ensure we maintain our grounds to as high a standard as possible for all our visitors.
We know there will be many of you out there that will be disappointed but please bear with us. We are already planning another great Fair with some exciting new initiatives and creative twists and the Fair will be back on Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th August 2013 – we hope to see you all there.

A Fiery Feast of entertainment for all the Family
Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th August 2011
11am – 6pm
Traquair Fair, held in the grounds of Scotland’s Oldest Inhabited House in the Scottish Borders is one of the longest running Fairs in Scotland and is fully focussed on a family audience.
This year is no exception. The “fire” theme this year means a red hot programme of entertainment for all ages and a strong crafts in action section with glass blowing demonstrations, forging, raku and candlemaking.
On the main wine glass lawn there will be some stunning outdoor shows including fire breathing, the Voodoo Unicyling performance group, Turbo Jonez, and the Temple of Boom and the exciting sounds of the Explosive Dholi drummers.
In the Old Walled Garden there is always a relaxed atmosphere and music on the Little Stage with some great bands such as the Blazin Fiddles, Rab Noakes & Fraser Spiers, The New Rope String Band, Flame & Fury, Rory Macleod to name but a few. This year there is an additional Up n Coming stage with new local bands being given a chance to perform.
A huge array of Children’s entertainers on the main avenue will include The Clydebuilt Puppet Theatre, Mike Hares with Willie the Wicked Woof, the wonderful Mr Boom and a puppet theatre based in an old Gypsy Caravan. There is also a Children’s Book Tent with authors and storytellers and for those wanting to get involved or run around there will be arts workshops a colour maze and swing boats.
With traditional music and dance in the courtyard and even touring the house included in your ticket travelling to the Fair early is advisable to make the most of your day unless of course, you decide to camp and make it a weekend you and your kids will remember.
